POSITION SUMMARYPrepares schematic wiring diagrams and engineering drawings of basic existing and proposed elements of the Authority’s signal system.
Qualifications PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES- Assists in the preparation of drawings for the renewal, removal or addition of signal and crossing equipment.
- Participates in studies of equipment at field locations to prepare detailed drawings.
- Determines type and amount of materials and labor required to complete various projects and prepares necessary documents.
- Assists in the design and modification of circuits for signal and related equipment.
- Inspects signal equipment to ensure proper operations.
- Participates in studies of problematic units and parts to determine causes for malfunctions and suitable corrective action.
- Prepares operating instructions for new types of equipment.
- Maintains files and records of tracings, drawings and other project data.
- Performs related duties as assigned.

Job Title
CHALLENGES EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS- Required to possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or a combination of education and approximately 1 year experience relating to this position.
- Experience with CAD preferred.
- Light physical effort required.
- Subject to prevailing weather when traveling the Chicago Metropolitan Area when conducting field inspections, investigations, system cutovers, etc.
- Detailed knowledge of basic electricity and electronic circuits.
- Working knowledge of C or similar programming language.
- Required to complete the Authority’s Signal and Interlocking programs.
- Usual office working conditions.
- Occasionally travels to and works at various field locations.
- Occasionally works on elevated, ballasted, and subway tracks adjacent to moving rail vehicles and energized power rails.
- Occasionally required to travel to other transit properties and contractor facilities located throughout North America.
- Occasionally required to work overtime (paid) to support after hours and weekend signal activities.
Additional Details Employees and/or union members will be given priority consideration in the hiring process, per the applicable labor contracts.
Rate to be determined by applicant's entered service date and service date in union jurisdiction of this classification.
