Gonzalez Companies is a partner managed firm that provides comprehensive planning, design, and construction management services to large and small water, sewer and utility districts; departments of transportation; and municipalities. We are currently seeking a Construction Engineer to help serve our clients and community. Responsibilities- Oversee and manage construction projects from inception through completion, ensuring adherence to design plans, schedules, and budgets.
- Coordinate with architects, engineers, contractors, subcontractors, and municipal authorities.
- Prepare and review construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
- Conduct site inspections to monitor quality, progress, and compliance with safety and building codes, including Illinois‑specific and City of Chicago regulations.
- Identify and resolve engineering or construction‑related issues in a timely manner.
- Assist in procurement of materials, equipment, and labor; review vendor and subcontractor performance.
- Review project documentation, including contracts, RFIs, submittals, and change orders.
- Implement construction best practices and innovative solutions to optimize efficiency and reduce costs.
- Ensure environmental compliance and sustainability standards are met, including stormwater management, erosion control, and permitting requirements in the Chicago region.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and field personnel.
- Maintain accurate project records, reports, and progress documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or related field.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Illinois preferred.
- 3–7+ years of construction engineering or project management experience; municipal, transportation, or heavy civil projects in the Chicago area is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of local building codes, ordinances, and permitting processes, including Chicago Department of Buildings regulations.
- Experience with construction management software (e.g., Procore, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, Civil 3D).
- Excellent project planning, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to coordinate across teams and stakeholders.
- Familiarity with safety regulations (OSHA, local safety codes) and environmental compliance requirements.
- Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to changing priorities.
