This position reports to the Northern Illinois Regional Manager in our downtown Chicago office.

Job DescriptionThe senior transportation engineer will work independently and lead others to perform civil engineering design services in a team‑oriented environment. Project emphasis is transportation engineering design for both public and private sectors ranging in scope from small to multimillion‑dollar designs.
Duties & Responsibilities- Lead and produce quality highway/roadway design plans that meet client expectations and adhere to project budgets and schedules.
- Serve as the go‑to technical resource for internal staff.
- Collaborate with external design disciplines.
- Ensure technical execution and accountability across projects.
- Assist project managers with various project duties when support is needed.
- Supervise and mentor engineers, CAD staff, and junior team members while proactively leading tasks and managing multiple concurrent projects under pressure and tight deadlines.
- Perform other job duties as assigned.
- Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college/university required.
- Professional Engineer (PE) registration in Illinois, or ability to obtain IL licensure within 3 months.
- 12+ years of experience in civil/highway design projects for state DOT, county, city and/or other municipal clients.
- Expert knowledge of IDOT/Tollway plan development guidelines and standards.
- Familiarity with procedures, methodologies, and standards including HCM, MUTCD, AASHTO, US Access Board guidelines.
- Proficiency in Micro Station, Geopak, InRoads, and/or Open Roads Designer (ORD) within IDOT/Tollway and other agency CADD environments.
- Proficiency with Excel and other general office software.
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to sit and use a computer for extended periods.
- Visual focus for electronic documents and design software.

Starting Salary Range: $125,000–$165,000. Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications as well as market and business considerations.
