WhatYou Will Do
We are looking for a candidate who is excited to work on a variety of complex projects with colleagues who enjoy all aspects of design. The Highway & Traffic Team is currently involved in safety and design alternative analysis, corridor reconstruction projects, interchange and intersection improvements, bridge preservation projects and bridge replacement projects.
This person will provide transportation engineering services on highway, bridge and rail projects throughout the country. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 4 years of professional experience. Our success has been built on teamwork with our colleagues in highway, bridge, stormwater, and utility design. We strive for innovation and ingenuity in our designs, providing the best outcomes for all transportation users.
Proven ability to work in a team environment and share experience and expertise with teammates is ideal. A successful candidate should be able to plan, conduct and coordinate traffic engineering work, prepare reports, plans and specs for design projects, and monitor multiple project schedules and budgets.
- Prepare and review design calculations.
- Research design alternatives, code requirements and present findings.
- Prepare and review reports, contract drawings, cost estimates and specifications.
- Communicate regularly with the Project Manager regarding expected results, workload, and progress.
- Advocate for, lead, and mentor entry‑level engineers.
- Communicate and attend meetings with clients, sub‑consultants, and other project stakeholders.
- Engage in business development activities including information gathering, preliminary design and proposal writing.
- Develop accurate engineering designs and plans with quality presentation, while meeting project budgets, schedules, and company standards.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; and participating in professional societies.
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an ABET‑accredited university.
- A minimum of 4 years highway and/or traffic engineering experience.
- EIT Certification.
- Working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Micro Station & Geopak, Open Roads Designer, VISSIM, VISUM, AutoCAD.
- Traffic signal design and Synchro experience; knowledge of MUTCD, HSM & HCS.
- Actively engages multiple perspectives when solving problems, seeks to learn from peers, and encourages reciprocal learning among team members.

- Certified as a Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) preferred.
- Experience working with any of the following transportation agencies: IDOT, CDOT, KDOT, MoDOT, or NDOT.
- Familiarity with highway design principles.
- Experience using VISSIM.
The salary range for this role is $70,000 – $100,000. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
