Overview
IMEG is growing and seeks a Structural Project Designer to join either the Chicago or Naperville, IL office. The role leads design efforts as a project manager or lead engineer for low to moderate complexity projects and collaborates with senior staff for larger, high complexity projects. The position involves working with a team of engineers and consultants to provide engineering solutions and advice to clients to ensure positive outcomes, focusing on engineering analysis, design, and implementation oversight of mechanical systems for the vertical building industry.
The role requires working within the project budget, training, mentoring, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations.
- Lead analysis and design of structural systems using various building materials; create detailed designs, specifications, and calculations per code requirements and IMEG standards using engineering software and tools
- Interact with clients to understand needs, gather project requirements, and communicate technical information; build and maintain client relationships
- Work as part of a project team to support consulting projects; lead planning, budgeting, and scheduling efforts to meet deadlines; document design decisions and monitor progress regarding percent complete and fee expenditure
- Analyze engineering problems and propose innovative solutions; collaborate with senior engineers and consultants to develop practical and efficient solutions
- Provide in-process design reviews of structural system design, calculations, and specifications; implement IMEG quality control processes to meet quality standards and client requirements
- Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in structural engineering; contribute to research and innovation efforts within IMEG
- Prioritize safety in all engineering work; conduct oneself in an ethical and professional manner
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions that meet project goals
- Identify potential project problems and seek advice from the Project Manager
- Oversee projects through bidding, design, and construction administration phases
- Proficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts for producing technical plans and specifications
- Strong technical and analytical skills in mechanics and materials, load paths, design standards (steel, concrete, wood, masonry), and structural concepts
- Ability to train and mentor less experienced staff
- Proficiency in industry-standard engineering software for structural design and analysis
- Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to work collaboratively in a team
- Attention to detail and problem-solving skills; adaptability to new challenges
- Proficiency in BIM software; MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Ability to travel up to 10% with occasional overnight stays
- BS in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering (or equivalent) required
- MS in Structural Engineering preferred
- EIT Certification preferred
- Minimum 3 years of experience in building design consulting; 4+ preferred
OR
- Associate degree or certificate in Building Information Modeling (BIM) or Engineering preferred
- Minimum 7 years of experience in building design consulting or construction; 8+ preferred

Salary and BenefitsSalary Range: $90,000 – $100,000. Minimums and maximums may vary by location. Individual pay based on experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities. Additional rewards may include annual bonuses and stock ownership options.
