Netpace Inc is seeking an Estimator to support specialty foundation construction projects.
Location: Detroit, MI and Chicago, IL (On‑Site)
Job Type: Full‑time
Prepare portions of estimates for one or more specific techniques related to specialty foundation construction, including the determination of applicable project plans and specifications.
Essential Functions- Review proposal specifications and drawings to determine scope of work, attend pre‑bid meetings, conduct site visits, and interact with operations staff to develop work approach.
- Prepare quantity takeoffs and input data into computerized estimating software (HCSS Heavy Bid).
- Review design options and recommend the best solution based on cost, engineering quality, or material availability.
- Work directly with staff and operations to complete various project estimates and documentation.
- Manage bid time to ensure accurate and timely preparation of assigned estimate portions.
- Maintain files of working documents as backup for estimate figures, including current supplier price information.
- Organize and detail estimates for clarity and efficient handover to field personnel.
- Incorporate historical data from purchase orders, subcontracts, and productivity analysis reports into current estimates.
- Interface with vendors and subcontractors to obtain and review quotes, ensuring services and products are accurately represented.
- Ensure estimate accuracy to the maximum reasonable and achievable extent.
- Represent Nicholson professionally, fairly, and ethically to clients, engineers, vendors, and partners.
- Freely access construction sites in varied climates and environments.
- Occasional travel is required.
- Undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Construction Engineering, or equivalent.
- 2–5 years of estimating, cost control, and/or project engineering/management experience related to heavy highway or heavy industrial construction projects.
- Knowledge and expertise in geotechnical construction (a plus).
- Advanced knowledge of estimating techniques and cost control; ability to interpret computerized cost data and systems.
- Preferred software skills: HCSS Heavy Bid.
- Lift, carry, pull, and push at least 40 pounds.
- Travel per the company policy, often overnight and away from home.
