The Opportunity

As a nuclear stress engineer on the Mechanical Piping Team, you will function as a technical specialist or in a lead role. This role includes:

  • Perform, verify, and direct piping stress analysis to ensure conformance to ASME Section III, ASME B31.1, and related standards for nuclear pressure piping.
  • Conduct detailed stress analysis on metallic piping, evaluating conditions such as elevated temperature service, high vibration loads on equipment (steam turbines, pumps, compressors, heat exchangers), pulsating service, flow‑induced vibration, and transient loads.
  • Coordinate work between domestic and international offices, assign tasks, and collaborate with internal and external team members on complex projects.
  • Initiate contact with other disciplines as needed to identify and coordinate details of the work.
  • Prepare purchase specifications and administer pipe support purchase order contracts with domestic and international suppliers.
  • Prepare and qualify pipe support designs to satisfy all code and project requirements.
  • Actively seek to understand client interests and drivers through normal client contact and collaborative communication with project leadership.
  • Expand knowledge in other disciplines and provide mentoring and training to junior engineers.
  • Travel to job sites for walkdowns and hanger inspections for both existing and new‑build facilities.
The Team

The Mechanical Engineering Department is a global team delivering high‑quality, on‑time design and services in Power, Gas, Fuels & Chemicals, Water & Waste Water, Data Centers, and Mining. The Mechanical Piping Design Team specializes in piping design and stress analysis, ensuring compliance with industry standards. Our U.S. group has 30 professionals located across multiple sites, primarily Raleigh, NC and Overland Park, KS.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in nuclear pipe stress analysis and piping design.
  • Proficiency with ASME B31.1 Power Piping Code and related design guides and standards.
  • Working knowledge of ASME BPVC Section III‑1 NB (Class
    1), NCD (Class 2 & Class
    3), NF (Supports), and ASME NQA‑1.
  • Intermediate knowledge of ASME BPVC Section III, Division 5 (High Temperature Reactors).
  • Intermediate knowledge of design standards such as API, ASTM, and AWWA.
  • Working knowledge of AutoPIPE stress analysis software.
  • Intermediate knowledge of ANSYS Mechanical and basic FEA principles.
  • Knowledge of procurement and contract administration, and project controls.
  • Advanced ability to interpret engineering deliverable content.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited program, with a minimum of 5 years related work experience. Applicants must complete pre‑employment onboarding requirements, including background checks, drug screening, and motor vehicle record search, in compliance with applicable laws.

Certifications

Professional Engineer (P.E.) preferred, or active pursuit of licensure.

Work Environment and Schedule
  • Typical office environment; prolonged periods of sitting and computer use.
  • Physical tasks during site visits, including crouching, grasping, and standing/walking for extended periods.
  • Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days based on manager discretion.
