Duties And Responsibilities

The Coordinator for Arrupe Continuing Scholars plays a central role in Loyola’s mission. Reporting to the Associate Director in the Office of Scholars Programs, the Coordinator will support a caseload of 100-150 Arrupe Continuing Scholars and will be responsible for success outcomes related to persistence and graduation with a bachelor’s degree in the university. The Coordinator is a grant-funded position that supports Arrupe Continuing Scholars, inclusive of the Arrupe Continuing Leadership Scholars, who graduate from Arrupe College and pursue their bachelor’s degrees at a college/school within Loyola University Chicago.

This position will be responsible for intentional, strategic, and frequent interventions and services for Arrupe alums continuing their undergraduate education at Loyola.

  • Collaborates with colleagues to create and execute initiatives aimed toward increased academic success and sense of belonging (e.g., term-to-term retention, satisfactory academic progress, maintenance of scholarships, etc.) of Arrupe Continuing Scholars.
  • Uses term-to term academic performance data to identify students in need of academic and socio-emotional support; creates and implements programs and outreach for current Arrupe alums/continuing undergraduates, focusing on academic support, student development, and career exploration.
  • Assists students toward identifying opportunities for their integration within the larger Loyola University community.
  • Leads the creation, maintenance, execution, and evaluation of curricula, schedules, structures, and policies for outreach activities and programs.
  • Creates and produces reports for Advancement, stakeholders, and other constituents to highlight academic and personal progress of scholars.
  • Liaises with faculty, academic advisors, and college/school administrators to identify students in need of academic support and intervention; draws upon research-based best practices to recommend a measured and student-centered response that encourages self-advocacy.
  • Liaises with Arrupe College Academic Affairs, Arrupe College Transfer and Transfer Committee to ensure a continuous and seamless Loyola experience.
  • Teaches multiple sections of UNIV 201 Transfer Seminar for Arrupe College Alums and UNIV 112 Strategies for Learning; may teach UNIV 101 First-Year Seminar, as needed.
  • Assists with the activities of student leader positions such as Success Coaches, Peer Tutors, and Peer Mentors.
  • Develops resources and presentations/workshops promoting student success, enrichment, and retention in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Leads logistical coordination for outreach activities and programs.
  • Leads marketing and communication efforts related to all outreach programs.
  • Establishes and maintains effective collaboration with campus partners and internal constituencies to ensure smooth operations of all programs, including but not limited to:
    Arrupe College, undergraduate colleges/schools’ academic dean’s offices, academic departments, Campus Ministry, Athletics, Undergraduate Admission Office, Financial Aid Office, Student Accessibility Center, Tutoring Center, Office of the Bursar, Registration & Records, Center for Student Inclusion and Belonging.
  • Participates in all Scholars Programs activities and supporting scholars across the Office of Scholars Programs.
  • Participates in Student Academic Services signature programs, events, and activities, including but not limited to:
    New Student Orientation, New Student Convocation, finals week proctoring, and Undergraduate Admission open houses.
  • Represents Scholars Programs and Student Academic Services on University-wide committees and events as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
