Position Type: Special Education Teacher (Comprehensive Needs) Long Term Substitute through the end of the School Year
Job Responsibilities: The Comprehensive Needs Special Education Teacher is responsible for planning, delivering, and evaluating educational programs for students with comprehensive needs (students who require intensive, individualized support across academic, behavioral, and daily‑living domains) in self‑contained and inclusive environments across grades JK–8. The position requires close collaboration with general educators, related‑service personnel, instructional assistants, administrators, and parents to ensure student access to the general curriculum and attainment of Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals.
EssentialJob Functions
- Plan and implement direct instruction aligned to each student’s IEP.
- Differentiate, modify, and adapt general‑education materials.
- Integrate augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), visual supports, and other assistive technology.
- Provide instruction in functional academics, daily living, and vocational skills
- Develop, maintain, and update IEPs in compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Collect, analyze, and report student performance data; adjust instruction based on data.
- Administer or coordinate alternate assessments and progress monitoring.
- Create daily student and staff schedules.
- Supervise and provide feedback to instructional assistants.
- Coordinate with general‑education teachers to plan inclusive and specially designed instruction
- Lead and document team meetings; facilitate problem‑solving and staff training.
- Design and implement behavior‑support plans and classroom management systems.
- Implement individualized health, feeding, and toileting protocols.
- Model behavior management and health protocols for support staff.
- Maintain regular, individualized communication with parents/guardians.
- Demonstrate effective written and oral communication with students, staff, and community members.
- Perform additional duties relevant to the scope of the position as assigned by the administration.
- Illinois PEL Licensure with LBS 1 Endorsement
- Trained in Crisis Prevention and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention
