Position: First Years Chaplain

Saint Ignatius College Prep – Chicago, IL

Saint Ignatius College Prep seeks a creative, faith-filled, academically qualified, and experienced minister who will serve the Saint Ignatius College Prep community as a Student Chaplain. As a member of the Student Formation and Ministry Department (FAM), the Chaplain will be a self‑starter with a deep vision and commitment to the Catholic Mission and Ignatian identity of Saint Ignatius College Prep.

The ideal candidate will work collaboratively across the school community. She/he will be primarily responsible for the overall pastoral care, worship, and service programming for the diverse community of Saint Ignatius College Prep. This position reports directly to the Director of Student Formation and Ministry.

Job Summary

The Chaplain will focus programming to best serve the goals of the Department of Student Formation and Ministry, the school mission, and Jesuit Schools Network (JSN) student values outlined in the "Grad at Grad," and to those ends will be responsible for:

  • Coordinating the Freshman Retreat Program, including formation of Arrupe Mentors.
  • Directing the Sophomore Retreat Program, including leadership application and interview process as well as formation of all teams.
  • Leading SICP retreats across all levels of Student FAM programming annually.
  • Coordinating the Freshman and Sophomore Service Commitment program, including the Mobile Serve service tracking program, coordination of all details with students, parents, Principals' Office, Guidance Department, Dean's Office, College Counseling, IT, and the FAM staff.
  • Facilitating two Sophomore Chapel Reflections for each Sophomore Religious Studies Class, integrating various prayer practices with Scripture and reflection on students' community service (with appropriate assistance from FAM staff).
  • Planning, organizing, and implementing school‑wide liturgies for the student body in collaboration with the Director of Student Formation and Ministry, the Liturgical Coordinator, the Jesuit community and other key liturgical stakeholders.
  • Overseeing a Freshman/Sophomore Family Mass and reception.
  • Facilitating prayer and leadership with class meetings throughout the school year.
  • Demonstrating leadership with the Freshman Wolfpack Welcome summer orientation program.
  • Collaborating with all FAM staff in supporting the Senior Service Capstone Program.
  • Assisting with the implementation of school‑wide Reconciliation services in collaboration with FAM staff.
  • Directly supporting three annual Ignatian Values Days in collaboration with the Director, the FAM staff, IVD Committee, and other community stakeholders.
  • Attending an annual summer immersion trip.
  • Recruiting students and staff for engagement in all FAM programs.
  • Collaborating in developing budgets for all aforementioned programs.
  • Participating fully in personal spiritual development and professional, ministerial growth, including the SICP Adult Formation Program.
  • Engaging with students in routine pastoral outreach, and efforts for evangelization through coordinated visits to Freshman and Sophomore Classes.
  • Assisting with Prayer leadership by periodically leading morning prayer and the afternoon Examen.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Formation and Ministry.
Qualifications

To perform this role effectively, an individual must be able to successfully carry out each essential duty, with or without reasonable accommodation. The following qualifications represent the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this position:

  • Practicing Roman Catholic
  • MAPS/MDiv, MA in Theology, or its equivalent preferred
  • High School Experience, particularly in Catholic, Jesuit Education
  • Experience with Ignatian Pedagogy and Ignatian spirituality preferred
  • Demonstrated skill in organization and collaboration, especially in developing new projects and initiatives that encourage students to become faithful followers of Christ
