Job Summary: Provides instruction to patients while maintaining an orderly and disciplined structure in the classroom. Develops special interventions for patients unable to function within the classroom setting. Assists in curriculum development. Understands the basic growth and development milestones with appropriate interventions specific to the age and population served. Completes patient lesson plans and maintains all required records. Maintains an adequate supply of appropriate instructional materials relative to patient’s age and functioning level.
Assures the maintenance of a safe and sanitary environment.
The position is part‑time, 20 hours per week, teaching two classes per day (10:00‑11:00 am and 11:00‑12:00 pm) Monday through Friday. The role is located in the Garfield Park Child/Adolescent Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), designed for school‑age children and adolescents ages 12‑17 who are stable enough to live at home during treatment.
Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree required;
Master’s preferred. - One year teaching experience with E.D./B.D. children and/or adolescents preferred.
- Valid Illinois teaching certificate (PEL) required;
Special Education certification preferred. - Knowledge of effective teaching skills and educational strategies with a special education population, individual and group management skills, therapeutic relationships and processes, age‑specific growth and development, limit setting, and crisis and behavior management.
