POSITION OVERVIEW

The Critical Thinking Child (CTC) is hiring 20 part-time STEM tutors to support an Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) high-impact tutoring grant at 3 South Side Chicago after school programs near Hyde Park.

This isn’t just tutoring —
you’ll be teaching the next generation about AI literacy, cybersecurity awareness, and foundational STEM skills while helping students build confidence in math, reading, and test‑taking. The program culminates in a hands‑on tech and cybersecurity event in May where students showcase what they’ve learned.

Perfect for College students who want to share their passion for technology with young learners.

THIS IS A PROFESSIONAL PAID POSITION

This is a direct-hire, paid tutoring position — not a work‑study, internship, or volunteer role. We are looking for committed individuals who can treat this as a professional responsibility. Students are counting on you to show up prepared and on time, every session.

If you’re looking for flexible, meaningful work that fits your class schedule and pays well — and you can commit to being there consistently — this role is for you.

THE OPPORTUNITY

You’ll use CTC’s Thinkopolis curriculum to deliver high-impact tutoring in math, reading, and writing — while also leading enrichment lessons on:

  • AI Literacy — Teaching students to understand, question, and responsibly use artificial intelligence
  • Cybersecurity Awareness — Internet safety, digital citizenship, and protecting personal information
  • STEM Exploration — Hands‑on activities that spark curiosity in science, technology, engineering, and math

The spring session builds toward a culminating cybersecurity and tech event in May (think: web‑based cybersecurity challenges, career exploration, and student showcases). You’ll help prepare students and may have the opportunity to support the event itself.

SCHEDULE & COMMITMENT
  • Days:
Weekdays, between 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM (works well around class schedules)
  • Duration: 8-10 weeks (through late May 2026)
  • Locations: 3 South Side Chicago school sites (accessible from Hyde Park area)
  • Spring Event:
Support a culminating tech/cybersecurity showcase for students
  • Future Opportunities:
Tutors who perform well may be invited to continue with summer or fall programming
COMPENSATION

$25-$30 per hour based on experience and qualifications. This is a 1099 part‑time position
.
