MiddleSchool ELA (5-8) Program Description
FXW’s 5th–8th grade English/Language Arts program provides a rigorous curriculum for educating the whole child. The program offers access to a diverse range of texts reflecting student identities and perspectives. Direct instruction covers comprehension, word study, vocabulary, and grammar.
Responsibilities- Middle School ELA Teacher Primary Functions: serve as a homeroom teacher and advisor for one section of students; may teach a section of religion with provided materials; serve one grade level and be part of a grade-level team.
- Utilize effective instructional strategies with students and engage in ongoing professional growth.
- Create and manage a positive classroom environment that respects the dignity of all.
- Embrace the FXW Mission and Charisms and complete annual goals.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in education.
- State of Illinois teaching certificate preferred.
- Master’s degree in a curriculum area preferred.
- Ability to establish collaborative relationships with co-teachers and staff.
- Interest in teaching in an inclusive faith-based school and comfort teaching Religion Curriculum (Catholic or Interfaith).
The Teacher reports to the Campus Principal and will be supervised, evaluated, and mentored by the Principal and/or Assistant Principal. Other key relationships include campus leadership, Head of School, other teachers and administrators, staff, students and parents.
Physical Requirements- Standing and Movement: frequently stand for extended periods; move around the classroom and in tight spaces.
- Communication: speak clearly and project voice; understand others; visual acuity for details at various distances.
- Hearing: hear sounds and focus on a single source while ignoring others.
- Fine Motor

grasp, move, or assemble small objects. - Physical Stamina: stay active and engaged throughout the day.
- Occasional Physical Tasks: kneel, squat, or stoop to interact with students or materials; adapt to standing, sitting, or walking as needed.
- High Social Interaction: extensive interaction with students, parents, and staff.
- Classroom Management: manage diverse student behaviors and maintain a positive learning environment.
- Technology: comfortable using technology for instruction, communication, and assessment.
- Travel: local travel between campuses as necessary.
FXW offers a competitive salary and robust benefits program, commensurate with experience and in line with independent schools. Salary range: $54,820 – $64,696.
