Our Summer School Teachers empower bright students with learning disabilities to grow in confidence, skill, and independence. Using evidence-based instructional strategies, engaging materials, and a strengths-based philosophy, the teacher creates a dynamic learning environment where students thrive academically and socially. This highly collaborative role works closely with colleagues to plan instruction, support individualized learning needs, and document meaningful student progress.

This seasonal position runs from June 15, 2026, through July 24, 2026.

OUR UNIQUE MISSION At Hyde Park Day School (HPDS), our sole purpose is to help bright first through eighth grade students with learning disabilities reach their full potential. We believe students who receive the appropriate intervention can develop the skills necessary to keep pace in traditional classrooms. We achieve this by teaching our students how to leverage their significant strengths in areas that are difficult, and how to self-advocate for the tools that they need to be successful.

This position offers a salary of $50.00 per hour

This position is not benefits eligible.

We provide free Wilson Training for this position. This includes participation in Wilson-approved coursework designed to equip educators to deliver structured literacy instruction. All training is coordinated by the school, and required materials are provided.

• Develop lesson plans that accommodate a range of learning styles and student needs.
• Create daily, weekly, and unit instructional plans aligned with school expectations and best practices.
• Present subject matter using varied instructional techniques and structured supports.
• Prepare clear lesson procedures for substitute teachers.
• Reflect on instructional delivery to ensure student learning and growth.

• Teach children with moderate to severe learning disabilities.
• Cultivate a positive, secure, and engaging classroom environment.
• Develop classroom rules that promote safety and self-regulation.
• Support effective transitions between activities.
• Use technology as a teaching tool; perform minor troubleshooting and report technical issues when needed.

• Work closely with colleagues on curriculum development and instructional planning.
• Participate in faculty meetings, parent conferences, and collaborative problem-solving.

• Document student progress on academic goals.
• Administer and interpret formal and informal assessments.
• Apply a variety of instructional strategies that support diverse learners.
• Suggest appropriate instructional modifications for use in general education settings.

• Minimum of two years teaching experience preferred.
• Experience with students with diagnosed learning disabilities required.
• Assistive technology experience required.
• Orton-Gillingham experience preferred.
• Coaching or extracurricular experience preferred.

• Bachelor's degree required.
• Master's degree preferred.
• Special Education degree or certification preferred.
