ABOUT THE POSITION
The Illinois College of Osteopathic Medicine at the Chicago School is hiring a Clinical Skills Educator to provide hands-on instruction to osteopathic medical students. This role will provide hands-on instruction and oversight in physician skills and OMM experiential sessions.
Successful candidates will be a healthcare professional who contributes directly to the development of students’ physical exam, clinical, and palpatory and/or manipulative skills in alignment with the osteopathic philosophy and Illinois
COM curriculum objectives. This role will work in collaboration with Operations staff, clinical faculty and Course Directors to facilitate small-group, hands-on laboratory sessions, reinforcing safe, effective, and evidence-informed clinical practice and/or osteopathic principles and practices within the Patient Centered Osteopathic Practice courses. Responsibilities include observing and instructing medical students during experiential sessions. A successful candidate may also lead a laboratory demonstration or instruction of clinical skills and/or Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine techniques depending on skillset and experience.
This is a part-time position requiring flexibility to work during the hours agreed upon for student instruction and assessment. The position is on-site at the Chicago Campus.

COM is anticipated to open for its first class of students in summer 2026 with a Mission to train exceptional physicians to leverage the interconnection of physical and mental health to provide compassionate, patient-centered care of the highest quality.
Instructional Tasks & Faculty Collaboration
- Facilitate small-group instruction during Clinical skills and/or OMM laboratory sessions under the direction of the Course Director.
- Demonstrate, observe, and guide student performance of physical exam, clinical skills and osteopathic palpation, diagnosis, and manipulative techniques with emphasis on correct hand placement, patient positioning, and operator body mechanics.
- Provide individualized formative feedback to students to enhance psychomotor skill acquisition and professional growth.
- Reinforce foundational concepts in osteopathic philosophy, anatomy, biomechanics, and clinical application.
- Ensure all teaching activities uphold student, patient, and faculty safety standards.
- Collaborate with Course Directors and fellow faculty to maintain standardization and consistency in technique instruction and terminology across lab sections.
- Participate in faculty calibration or training sessions as scheduled by the department.
- Provide feedback to operations and/or course leadership regarding lab flow, student engagement, and curricular improvement opportunities.
