Job Summary:
Francis W. Parker School is a renowned JK-12th grade independent day school. Founded in 1901 on the tenets of progressive education, the School currently enrolls 940 students and employs over 200 dedicated faculty and staff members who, in addition to assistant teachers, substitute teachers and coaches, work together to ensure that the School lives up to its Mission to “educate students to think and act with empathy, courage and clarity as responsible citizens and leaders in a diverse, democratic society and global community.”
We are currently seeking a dynamic, innovative and experienced educator in the field of English to join our faculty in the Upper School for the duration of the 2025-26 school year. Responsibilities include teaching a combination of required and elective courses, serving as an advisor, and facilitating our Civic Lab program.
Required Qualifications:
- B.A. in English or Secondary English Education required; M.A. or Ph.D. preferred
- At least three (3) years of high school English classroom experience preferred
- Affinity for working with mid-adolescents across grade levels
- Ability to teach core reading and writing skills; adept at employing differentiated learning strategies to meet a range of academic needs
- Commitment to progressive education
- Commitment to collegiality with fellow department members and colleagues
- Demonstrated record of developing one’s own cultural competency and incorporating diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging in personal practice and curriculum
- Demonstrated commitment to community work and social justice projects
- Excellent communication skills, sound judgment, and emotional intelligence
Compensation:
$140/day for any cross-training days, then $175/full day; this position is not eligible for benefits.
