Adjunct Instructor – Biology (PT)
DALEY COLLEGE
Daley College is currently seeking a Part‑time Biology Instructor for the Summer and Fall 2024 semester. Candidate should have a passion for teaching and learning, a strong commitment to the community college mission, and demonstrated success in the classroom using effective teaching strategies that promote acquisition, application, and critical thinking skills.
Duties and Responsibilities- Design courses to meet learning outcomes and promote students’ active participation in their own learning.
- Create an effective learning environment that fosters intellectual curiosity and helps students to problem solve using discipline‑specific thinking strategies.
- Employ a variety of formative and summative assessments to ensure that classroom instruction leads to student learning and attainment of course outcomes.
- Help students reach their academic, personal, and career goals; foster a safe environment that respects diversity of people and ideas by modeling respect for all students and conveying confidence in every student’s ability to learn.
- Contribute to and provide leadership in academic and professional communities, and promote collaboration and teamwork among members of these communities.
- Adhere to City Colleges of Chicago code of ethics, Board rules and policies.
- Master’s degree or higher in the life sciences (e.g., Animal Science, Anatomy & Physiology, Biology, Bioengineering, Botany, Cell Biology, Ecology, Environmental Biology, Field Biology, Genetics, Human Biology, Ichthyology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, MD, Mycology, Nutrition, Ornithology, Zoology).
- Knowledge of Blackboard Learning Management System is preferred.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to communicate with a diverse group of staff and students.
- Experience working with a diverse, multilingual student population is desired, as is a commitment to the open‑access mission of the community college.
