Duties And Responsibilities

The Director of Academic Advising leads the implementation of undergraduate academic advising processes for the Quinlan School of Business and serves as a mentor and resource for other members of the advising team. The director also serves as the advisor for about 150 undergraduate BBA students, supporting their academic success.

Responsibilities Include

  • Ensure that Quinlan undergraduates receive pertinent information about academic programs and expectations, personal development resources and opportunities, and program changes.
  • Provide valuable student-level feedback to the Quinlan leadership team, especially to the Senior Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs and Academic Affairs.
  • Serve as a primary expert on university and school academic policies, interpreting regulations and making decisions on how policies apply to individual student cases.
  • Regularly assess undergraduate academic and advising programs to identify avenues for improvement and make recommendations to the Quinlan leadership team.
  • Track undergraduate student retention measures; suggest and implement innovative approaches to retaining BBA students at Loyola.
  • Oversee the graduation audit process to ensure that each Quinlan undergraduate’s academic plan and completion are reviewed by the advising team. Complete all final degree audits and post/award degrees for graduating Quinlan undergraduates.
  • Coordinate the evaluation process for awarding credit for courses taken at other institutions, including transfer credit, study abroad, and external summer or winter coursework.
  • Act as the undergraduate office’s liaison to university Registration and Records, especially regarding Academic Requirements Reports.
  • Prepare information on any reported academic misconduct by Quinlan undergraduate students and send to the Assistant Dean and department chairs for adjudication.
  • Represent Quinlan in undergraduate admissions processes, providing information to prospective students and families and attending recruiting events as requested (e.g., fall and spring open house and yield weekends).
  • Identify and contribute content for student newsletters that communicate essential academic information.
  • Coordinate academic standing review and communicate changes in academic standing (probation, dismissal, change of registration, emergency withdrawal, leave of absence, etc.) and related policies to affected students each term.
  • Participate in the coordination and execution of commencement and other Quinlan academic ceremonies.
  • Appropriately apply FERPA regulations in discussions of student matters with families, faculty, and other parties.
  • Manage the Quinlan undergraduate Dean’s List process.
  • Provide guidance and training for the academic advising team and coordinate assignments of individual students to advisors.
  • Review and provide feedback on technology support options for Quinlan academic advising operations.
  • Represent Quinlan on the Advising Leadership Committee and other university-wide committees as assigned.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education And/or Work Experience
  • 5 or more years of experience with academic advising and transfer processes at a four-year institution.
  • Master’s degree in education, psychology, or another relevant discipline.

  • Ability to contribute at a high level to conversations about improving academic programs and services for undergraduate business students.
