The Career Peer Mentor (CPM) is a student leadership position within the Career Development Center (CDC). The CPMs will provide peer‑to‑peer support to fellow students in their career exploration and job search processes. This role involves assisting students with resume and cover letter writing, interview preparation, job and internship search strategies, and navigating career resources. The CPMs serve as ambassadors for the CDC, promoting services and events across campus.
- Serve as first point of contact for department by interacting professionally with staff, faculty and students, answering phones and greeting visitors.
- Assist students with resumes, cover letters, Linked In profiles, interview preparation and job search strategies.
- Work with supervisor to develop and deliver career related workshops and participate in panel discussions as delegated by supervisor.
- Assist with marketing and promo of CDC by creating career materials, contributing to social media posts and outreach activities.
- Assist in planning and executing career fairs and employer events.
- Participate in facilitation of training and stay informed about job search trends and career readiness best practices.
- Aid with organization of Champs’ Closet and filling requests.
- Demonstrates a commitment to SXU’s core values by respectfully serving individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Commit to regular weekly hours; demonstrates punctuality.
- Communicate with Peer Mentor Supervisor on a regular basis.

Must Include a Resume and Cover Letter- Current undergraduate student (sophomore, junior, or senior) in good academic standing
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Proficient in formatting documents with Microsoft Word and Power Point
- Experience with resume writing, job searching, and interviewing preparation is preferred
- Enthusiasm for helping peers achieve their career goals
- Be willing to be taught/coached
- Social media skills are a plus
- Gain valuable experience in career advising and student support
- Develop leadership and communication skills
- Build a professional network with students, faculty, and employers
- Receive ongoing training and professional development
- Opportunity to positively impact peers' career success
