Position Summary

The Lunchroom and Recess Monitor will play a pivotal role in supporting the safety and well‑being of our students on a daily basis. As the Lunchroom and Recess Monitor you will supervise students during lunch and recess periods to ensure a safe and orderly environment. You will enforce school rules, manage student behavior, and assist with conflict resolution, reporting any incidents to school staff.

Strong communication and patience are essential qualities for this role, which also includes maintaining a positive atmosphere and attending to students' needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise Student Behavior:
    Monitoring student interactions, enforcing school rules, and redirecting inappropriate behavior in the cafeteria and on the playground.
  • Ensure Safety:
    Maintaining a safe environment by ensuring students follow established procedures, addressing spills or hazards, and reporting any safety concerns to the appropriate personnel.
  • Promote Positive Interactions:
    Encouraging positive interactions among students, mediating conflicts, and fostering a harmonious atmosphere.
  • Maintain Cleanliness:
    Assisting with maintaining the cleanliness of the lunchroom and playground areas after meal times.
  • Communicate Effectively:
    Communicating with students, teachers, and other staff members regarding any issues or concerns.
  • Assist with Logistics:
    Assisting with tasks like distributing milk, managing student movement, and ensuring orderly transitions between lunch and recess.
  • Report Incidents:
    Reporting any serious incidents, such as bullying, fights, or other serious behaviors, to the appropriate school authorities.
  • Be a Positive Role Model:
    Exemplifying good behavior, setting a positive example for students, and contributing to a positive school culture and climate.
  • Follow Procedures:
    Adhering to all Meridian Charter School policies and procedures related to lunch and recess supervision.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • A High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) is required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working with elementary school‑aged students within an educational setting.
  • Patience and Empathy:
    Ability to remain patient and understanding when working with children, especially in challenging situations.

    Collaboration:

    Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with various leaders in the school and community to create a positive and safe environment for students.
  • Results‑Oriented:
    Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, and an ability to observe student behavior, identify potential issues, and take appropriate action.
  • Change Management:
    Demonstrate ability to work in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment and adapt to changing priorities.
