Position Title
ADJUNCT INSTRUCTOR – JAPANESE

The position is located at Harold Washington College and may require day, evening, and/or weekend working hours in person.
Qualifications- Master’s Degree in Japanese (or a related field)
- Three or more years teaching Japanese in a university or community college setting
- Experience studying or living in a francophone country
- Understanding of the needs of the World Language student in a community college environment
- Significant experience working in a multicultural classroom
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching, commitment to integrating new technologies, and ability to inspire, motivate, and empower students
- Developing curriculum and instructional materials
- Developing integrated skills course models
- Integrating LMS and online text components in language learning
- Integrating evolving technologies in language learning
- Using a variety of teaching and delivery methods
- Teaching language through content
- Instruction in speaking, reading, writing, and listening
- Teaching critical thinking and comparative culture
- Written and oral assessment
- Construction of course syllabi consistent with departmental and college requirements
- Development and preparation of lesson plans, presentations, and instructional materials
- Delivery of instruction with emphasis on student‑centered activities and active learning
- Consultation with and tutoring of students on a one‑on‑one basis
- Maintenance of clear records on student performance, attendance, and grading factors
- Compliance with departmental and institutional policies, including submission of grades, keeping office hours, and making instructional decisions
- Participation in departmental and institutional assessments of student learning

Salary: $800.00 per contact hour (determined based on education, knowledge, skills, and abilities, and internal equity).
