The 04 Teacher shall generally work forty (40) hours each week and 10 months a year in accordance with the schedule personally arranged, and mutually agreed to by the Site Director and Director of Early Care and Family Services.
Basic Function:
The 04 Teacher is responsible for the overall management of the classroom, which includes having a working knowledge of general development of young children and educational systems. The 04 Teacher is also responsible for the active participation/contribution in the progress of the Center’s educational philosophy and environmental goals. The incumbent must demonstrate leadership and problem solving skills in and out of the classroom setting.
- Supervises and develops teachers, teacher assistants, and volunteers. Ensures teaching staff meet standards and goals of State Pre-K.
- Conducts feedback and coaching sessions with teaching staff. Shows teaching staff how to correlate standards, goals and benchmark goals with lesson plans.
- Ensures staff is doing what is age/developmentally appropriate for each age group.
- Models for reaching staff appropriate ways of teaching, critiquing and writing lesson plans/curriculum and offers alternative suggestions whenever necessary.
- Schedule teachers, teacher assistants for in‑services.
- Supervises and provides on‑the‑job training for teachers, teacher assistants, teacher aids and volunteers.
- Recommends or initiates referral procedures for children with special learning needs or other issues.
- Communicates and establishes relationships with parents through daily contact, in‑services, meetings, orientations and educational sessions.
- Orients children and parents to the classroom.
- Addresses parent concerns in a timely manner.
- Prepares for, conducts and documents parent/teacher conferences.
- Shares as well as receives knowledge gained through observations and interactions with the children the plans for future learning and growth.
- Attends staff meetings, parent meetings and in‑services, training sessions and approved career development seminars.
- Ensure compliance with Head Start Performance Standards, federal, state and city regulations and licensing requirements.
- Ensure performance evaluations, goal setting and staff development plans are reviewed on a periodic basis.
Knowledge and Skills
- Ability to write reports and correspondence, and read and interpret documents.
- Ability to perform basic math, and to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Knowledge of various software programs such as MS Word, Excel, Power‑Point, and Publisher.
- Ability to effectively communicate with community members and groups, managers, regulatory agencies, and families both individually and in group settings.
- Conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to supervise and manage staff efficiently and effectively within the guidelines of Trinity Child Care policies and mandates.
- Ability to organize and manage time effectively.
Education:
This position requires a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Early Childhood Education with a Type 04 State Certification along with one (1) year supervisory experience, plus three (3) years classroom experience.
The incumbent must possess the knowledge of child development, licensing, and funding standards. The incumbent must be familiar with legislation and advocacy of childcare services in the State of Illinois; this includes best practices in Early Childhood Development standards. Additionally, the incumbent must possess the ability to relate and develop a mutual respect for the families and children served and must possess the ability to get along with diverse personalities, demonstrate tact, and maturity.
