Position: High School Home Economics Teacher

Kairos Academies is seeking a hardworking, culture-building, student-focused, and data-driven Home Economics Teacher. At Kairos, all teachers are leaders—you’ll not only teach a wide range of essential life skills but also serve in a whole-school service role (e.g., Hospitality Lead, Wellness Lead) that empowers students to connect classroom learning with real-world application.

Key Responsibilities

Rigorous Instruction and Curriculum

  • Design and implement engaging, standards-aligned units across core areas of Home Economics:
    • Culinary & Nutrition: recipe reading, meal planning, nutrition, food safety
    • Textiles & Design: sewing, clothing construction, repairs, fabric care
    • Family & Child Development: child care, developmental milestones, family dynamics
    • Health & Hygiene: wellness, first aid, grooming, personal safety
    • Consumer & Financial Literacy: budgeting, saving, credit, career readiness, consumer awareness
    • Housing & Interior Design: household management, cleaning, organization, design basics
    • Broader Life

      Skills:

      etiquette, hospitality, sustainability, civic responsibility, social skills
Integrate project-based and hands-on learning experiences that connect academics with practical applications.

Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.

Data-Driven Practice

Assess student learning using performance tasks, projects, and authentic assessments.

Analyze student progress to inform instruction and adjust supports.

Provide clear, actionable feedback to help students build mastery.

Student and Family Engagement

  • Communicate student progress and next steps via email, calls, and parent-teacher conferences.
  • Provide students and families with strategies to extend life skills learning beyond the classroom.
  • Facilitate student Circle once a week and participate in staff Circle once a week.
  • Monitor your mentor group’s academic and behavior progress; support students in setting and reaching ambitious academic and character goals.
  • Serve as a direct point-of-contact for Kairos families to share school-wide information and student support updates.
Whole School Leadership
  • Serve in a “whole-school service” role (e.g., Tutoring Lead, Wellness Lead, Event Hospitality Lead) that drives school-wide culture and student success.
Driver Goals

Proficiency on course-aligned performance tasks: 60%

Growth on project rubrics and student reflections: 70%

Qualifications

Degree:
Bachelor’s in Family & Consumer Sciences Education, Home Economics, or related field;
Master’s preferred

Certification:
Valid Missouri Family & Consumer Sciences teaching certification (or willingness to certify ASAP)

Experience:

3+ years of teaching Home Economics or related subjects at the middle or high school level preferred

Skills:

Expertise in hands-on instruction, classroom management, and culturally responsive teaching

  • Other:
    Eligible to work for any employer in the U.S.; clear criminal background check
Technology and Safety

Proficiency with Microsoft Office, student information systems, and instructional technology tools

Commitment to classroom and equipment safety protocols

Physical Demands

  • Ability to occasionally exert 20-50 pounds, frequently exert 10-25 pounds.
  • Comfortable using instructional technology extensively throughout the day.
  • Mobility and stamina to supervise, instruct, and support students actively.
  • Active, dynamic classroom and school environment with varying noise levels and frequent interactions.
  • This is not a remote position—all Kairos teachers deliver instruction in-person and onsite at our St. Louis campus.
Compensation
  • Base Salary for certified teachers with teaching experience starts at: $60,000
  • Health, Vision, and Dental Insurance.
