Associate Dean – Adult Education
Malcolm X College is seeking an Associate Dean of Adult Education to serve as the chief assistant to the Dean of Adult Education in the areas of academic policy, student admissions, curriculum research and development, faculty recruitment and retention, and budget development and administration. This person acts as the administrator in charge of the entire department in the absence of the Dean.
Duties & Responsibilities- Identify and recommend staffing needs to the Dean. Interview and recommend part‑time faculty to the Dean. Evaluate part‑time faculty and recommend retention or non‑retention.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive orientation program for part‑time faculty, in conjunction with the Office of Human Resources and the District Office.
- Provide an effective two‑way communication channel between administration and faculty to ensure integrity, currency, and innovation of educational programs.
- Serve as a hearing officer regarding student complaints and recommend appropriate procedures for their resolution.
- Prepare and develop budgets for the division in cooperation with the Business Office; monitor the budget; implement procedures for purchase and maintenance of instructional equipment and supplies; maintain accurate inventory control.
- Work with the Registrar’s Office to facilitate registration processes for the Adult Education department consistent with District policies and procedures.
- Coordinate the evaluation, review and implementation of innovative curriculum additions and revisions, course outlines, syllabi, and textbook selection.
- Write proposals to seek external funding for specific projects and initiatives that require support beyond the District’s capabilities.
- Work with the Office of Research to plan and implement routine research concerning the numbers, status and success of course offerings; prepare reports and analyses and make appropriate recommendations.
- Use computer software to prepare memoranda and spreadsheet reports detailing activities and statistics.
- Represent the college to community organizations and agencies and participate on district‑wide committees.
- Pay attention to detail in all assignments to ensure accuracy of information and reports.
- Serve as weekend and/or evening administrator for the College.

- Bachelor’s degree in Education, English as a Second Language (ESL), or a related field required. Master’s degree or equivalent preferred, supplemented by a minimum of five years of administrative experience in Adult Education and/or ESL programs.
- Proven organizational and supervisory skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work well with employees at all levels, students, and other college customers.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Computer proficiency with knowledge of a variety of software programs.
- Self‑directed, innovative, able to assess current operations and improve future goals.
- Able to meet deadlines in a timely manner.
Salary: $92,866–95,000 per year, determined by education, knowledge, skills, and abilities, and internal equity.
