Community Watcher

Reports to daily assigned safety routes/post(s) to assist students traveling to and from school.

• Assist students traveling to and from school along assigned safety routes/post(s).
• Assist students traveling to and from bus stops and board necessary buses.
• Monitor designated “hot spots” for suspicious behavior and potential conflicts.
• Collaborate with CPD and CPS and instantly report any known or potential conflicts to the team lead, supervisor, CPD, or CPS.
• Wear a uniform and/or have official identification that clearly defines status as Community Watcher.
• May be required to report to alternative routes around nearby schools due to potential conflicts in the community.
• May accompany CPS students on Board‑approved school buses shuttling students from the sending school to their welcoming schools.
• May be deployed throughout safety routes during school events outside of regular arrival and dismissal times, including athletic events, school dances, and graduation ceremonies.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Resident of Roseland community.

• Able to work with youth and the school community.
• Ability to keep accurate records.
• Full attendance and participation in supervision and all scheduled trainings.

• Sensitivity to cultural diversity is required. Ability to communicate and cooperate with diverse families, various professionals, and community groups.
• Able to work as a cooperative and supportive team member.

• Frequently exposed to outdoor weather conditions.
• Constantly moves to assist children in crosswalks.
• Must be able to remain stationary 50% of the time.
• Occasionally ascends/descends stairs.
• Frequently moves desks, chairs, tables and easels.
• At times may be required to lift up to 25 lbs.
