Signing bonus: $750 after 30 days of employment.

Description

Chicago Commons, a Reggio-inspired organization, seeks an Assistant Teacher to support the lead teacher in creating a safe, nurturing learning environment for young children. The assistant teacher will assist in planning, implementing and evaluating developmentally appropriate activities across key areas, support families, and maintain classroom readiness.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Partner with the lead teacher to develop a welcoming classroom environment for children and families.
  • Assist in planning, implementing, and evaluating activities in domains such as Self-Image, Language & Literacy, Music & Movement, Social Studies, Science, Math, Art, Motor Activities, and In-Depth Projects.
  • Supervise and interact with children during activities.
  • Develop strong partnerships with families.
  • Take responsibility for the classroom in the lead teacher’s absence.
  • Attend home visits and conduct parent‑teacher conference assessment reviews.
  • Participate in Family Reviews and IFSP/IEP meetings as needed.
  • Prepare and clean up classroom activities.
  • Order supplies necessary for the program.
  • Maintain reports on children’s growth and development.
  • Attend parent meetings, in‑service training, and weekly team meetings.
  • Assist with implementation of the Reggio Emilia philosophy, focusing on in‑depth studies and classroom explorations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Education: Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development, or 30 college credit hours with a minimum of 15 credit hours in early childhood or child development; at least one year of experience in an early learning setting preferred.

    Skills:

    Proficient in reading, writing, and using a word‑processing system; ability to read, produce, and transmit data on such a system.
  • Physical Demands: Occasionally lift/move up to 40 lbs; frequently stand, walk, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
