Supported by the Howard and Nancy Marks Post-Doctoral Fellowship, the Principal Researcher position is designed to foster research that is on the boundaries among psychology, economics and finance. The Principal Researcher is responsible for serving as an instructor to teach two sections of a one quarter class during the academic year. In addition, the Principal Researcher will receive a research budget and may collaborate on projects of mutual interest with faculty at the Booth School and other units at the University of Chicago.

This position is anticipated to last two years and begins Summer/Fall 2026. The compensation range for this position is $75K.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Teach two sections of behavioral science classes each academic year.
  • Develop original research questions and implementation of studies to investigate those questions.
  • Participate in study design, data acquisition and analysis, manuscript development, and presentation/publication of results.
Reporting Relationship

Executive Director, Roman Family CDR as well as to a Faculty advisor (to be determined upon hiring).

Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Ph.D. (earned or expected by August 2026) in economics, psychology, or finance required.
  • Familiarity with methods of experimentation preferred.
  • Experience in conducting computer, web-based, and interpersonal interaction-based experiments preferred.
  • Outstanding verbal, written, as well as organizational and attention to detail skills required.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision; possess a self-motivated disposition; identify opportunities for improvement and recommend effective changes, all while achieving key objectives resulting in desired outcomes required.
  • Excellent strategic planning, critical thinking, analytical, and persuasion skills required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and diplomatically with colleagues, as well as with students, faculty and corporate contacts in a multitude of communication methods i.e., in person, email, phone required.
  • Professional demeanor, including tact, discretion, and a customer service-oriented approach required.
  • A resume/curriculum vita, two letters of recommendation, and a cover letter describing areas of research interests required.
  • Summary detailing own thoughts regarding the potential contribution of this position to the progress of their disciplinary training and academic career preferred.
  • Selection will be based largely on the applicant's ability to work collaboratively on research with one or more of the Roman Family Center for Decision Research faculty members. Thus, the applicant should indicate one or two faculty members with whom they would be most interested in collaborating.
