Duties and Responsibilities

The Sustainable Community Schools Resource Coordinator (SCSRC) leads implementation of the SCS model at McCutcheon Elementary School. The Resource Coordinator role connects school, family, and community stakeholders to build effective, dynamic programs, resources, and opportunities for students, family and community members. The SCS Resource Coordinator strategizes, plans, coordinates, motivates, planner, implementer, a people-person, and motivator to build a shared vision, develop collaborative strategies, implement successful programs and initiatives, and evaluate the work toward continuous improvement.

The Sustainable Community School Initiative through its work and advocacy seeks to dismantle oppressive systems, foster nurturing and healing environments, and create sustainable systems of support and is a transformative, justice-centered approach to education rooted in racial equity, community self-determination, and whole child development.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Coordination:

  • Facilitate whole-school and community planning aligned with SCS principles and pillars.
  • Help to develop, convene and maintain a representative SCS Leadership Team that includes youth, parents, educators, school staff, and community members that meets monthly.
  • Align, coordinate, and connect school-based and community-based resources to meet the collective vision.
  • Organize and facilitate regular opportunities for the school community to learn about, participate in, and shape the SCS strategy.

Community Engagement:

  • Facilitate community asset mapping of neighborhood assets, needs, leaders, and opportunities with their school community
  • Develop and strengthen authentic, trusting relationships with all members of the school community, centering the voices of those historically excluded from decision-making.
  • Engage with the leadership team to collectively design outreach strategies to engage stakeholders for programs and initiatives.

Vision, Strategic Planning and Implementation:

  • Co-design and lead a needs assessment and asset mapping process with the SCS Leadership Team and translate findings toward generating strategic goals for programming that are integrated with school planning documents (e.g., CIWP, budget priorities).
  • Manage community school programs and work in collaboration with parents, students, teachers, and school's administrators to develop new and sustainable programs
  • Develop and share reports, presentations, or other communication tools to ensure transparency and accountability.
  • Maintain timely and accurate attendance records for all programs
  • Manage the timesheets, check requests, check distribution, and reimbursements for all SCS staff and instructors

Collaboration & Professional Learning:

  • Work closely with the LPA, school leadership, and other SCS Coordinators to share learning and strengthen practice.
  • Participate in professional development, coaching, and communities of practice to continuously improve SCS implementation.
  • Foster a culture of reflective learning within the school community, promoting continuous improvement and sustainable growth.
Working Conditions
  • Primarily based in a school setting with frequent interaction with students, families, educators, and community members.
  • Requires occasional evening and weekend availability for community events and meetings.
  • Must pass CPS Background Check
Minimum Education and/or Work Experience
  • 5-10 years of experience in education, non-profit management, or government.
  • A bachelor's degree is preferred but not required.
Qualifications

Required:

  • Deep commitment to racial justice, equity, and community-led decision-making
  • Proven experience in community organizing, youth development, education, or related fields
  • Strong facilitation and relationship-building skills with diverse stakeholders
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, coordinate across sectors, and innovate
  • Skilled in conflict resolution and effective facilitation
  • Committed to problem-solving, collaboration, and building a strong team

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of Chicago Public Schools and local community-based organizations.
