Hospitalists provide inpatient clinical care to patients admitted to the service from various sources. Discharges are done timely and within regulatory guidelines. Hospitalists serve as clinical team leaders for code blue, rapid responses and other emergent scenarios, ensuring optimal team performance. Scope of care includes adult internal medicine, critical care, back-up by on‑call intensivist, ALS protocol, and occasionally care for ill obstetrical patients.
Responsibilities- Provide comprehensive primary inpatient care to patients admitted to the hospitalist service.
- Coordinate with clinical and administrative resources to ensure high‑quality, effective care.
- Provide teaching and mentoring to clinical staff.
- Ensure patients are admitted, cared for, and discharged in a timely manner per policy and regulatory guidelines.
- Collaborate with medical and clinical staff to use resources efficiently and ensure patient satisfaction.
- Participate in quality and patient satisfaction improvements through committees, projects, peer review and use of guidelines.
- Serve as a clinical team leader for code blue, rapid responses and other emergent scenarios.
- Communicate regularly with patients, families, staff, referring physicians, specialists, administration and hospital departments.
- Assist in educating new medical staff members on effective use of the Hospitalist Service.
- Supervise, at times, a history and physical or clinical assessment for patients seen by residents or students.
- Practice Type:
Hospital Employee - Board Certified in Family Medicine
- Active Unrestricted Illinois License or eligibility for Unrestricted Illinois License
- Minimum of 1 year of experience
- Excellent communication skills
- Full-time preferred; part-time considered
