Emergency Medicine Critical Decision Unit. The Rush University Medical Center Department of Emergency Medicine and Division of Hospital Medicine jointly seek a PA to continue their strong, collaborative relationship through joint-appointments, functional cross-training, periodic interdepartmental shift assignments, and engagement on multi-specialty process improvement activities.
Rush University Medical Center is a nationally recognized clinical and academic institution and the teaching hospital for Rush Medical and Nursing Colleges. The department invites applications for the position of Hospitalist in the Emergency Medicine Critical Decision Unit.
About The Department Join a thriving academically driven department that blends strong clinical care with robust educational programs. Our team includes: 44 attending physicians, 36 residents, and 4 fellows; 10 Advanced Practice Providers working seamlessly across Emergency Medicine to support efficient operations.
Duties & Responsibilities- Primary responsibility for multiple patients at any given time in the Emergency Department Critical Decision Unit to treat ESI levels 2, 3, 4, & 5.
- Completes and documents patient history and physical examinations into the electronic medical record system.
- Conducts comprehensive or episodic health assessments and develops patient care plans, and monitors patient status.
- Prescribes medications, initiates consultations, conducts laboratory and diagnostic tests, procedures, and therapies, and reviews the results.
- Rotates shifts including nights/weekends.
- Collaborates with ED/Hospitalist physicians when appropriate on patient management.
- Additional moonlighting opportunities in the ER, with hospital medicine, telemedicine via the OnDemand service.
- Demonstrates competency in all areas of APRN or PA practice including: medical knowledge, interpersonal and communication skills, patient care, professionalism, practice based learning and improvement, and systems based practice.
- Knowledge of current and emerging trends in technologies, techniques, issues, and approaches in area of expertise.
- Strong work ethic, interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively with collaborating physician, department, and other members of the healthcare team in an effective and comprehensive manner.
- Applicants with 3+ years previous acute care Physician Assistant experience are required.
- APRN Candidates will require Acute Care Certification when doing Inpatient work.
- Current licensure from the State of Illinois as a Physician Assistant/Associate or eligible to obtain licensure through the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) application process.
- Successful completion of an accredited Physician Assistant/Associate Program.
- Current certification from National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
- CPR, ACLS, and PALS certifications required.

Rush offers competitive total compensation that includes base pay, benefits, and other incentive programs for our employees. Pay Range: $124,610 - $175,000.
