POSITION SUMMARY
The Dental Director is responsible to supervise dental providers, dental auxiliaries, and dental administrative staff; and to ensure that comprehensive, quality dental care is provided to adult and pediatric patients.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to the following);
DENTAL DIRECTOR:
- Developing goals and objectives for the dental team; hiring quality staff; supervising all personnel; performing staff reviews and performance evaluations; and motivating and evaluating staff;
- Analyzing dental practice's needs; designing and implementing programs and procedures.
- Establishing, reviewing and maintaining dental standards with the aim of assuring the quality of dental care provided for the Health Center's consumers.
- Provide timely reports and feedback to the Medical Director and CEO on dental clinic functioning.
- Designing, providing and/or overseeing all in-service and procedural training for dental staff.
- Establishing workflow, procedures, and operational improvements.
- Researching problems and recommending solutions
- Monitoring use of budget throughout the year and preparing and submitting the annual budget for the dental practice.
- Sourcing grant and funding opportunities; assisting in the preparation of funding applications; and coordinating the application process through conclusion.
- Provide diagnostic and therapeutic dental services to all patients;
- Medical history is reviewed at every visit.
- All pathologic conditions are charted and reported to the patient.
- A written treatment plan developed with all options explained to the patient.
- An informed consent discussion is held with all patients prior to initiating any treatment.
- Patients are treated and removed from pain and infection.
- Referrals for specialists given to patients, if necessary.
- Enters and signs all treatment provided on the treatment form.
- Meets clinical standards of practice.
- Participates in the Quality Assurance Program at least bi-annually as one who is assessed.
- Refers all staff or patient grievances to the Dental Director.
- Supervises dental auxiliaries to his/her practice;
- Instructs assigned dental assistants in chair-side, laboratory, sterilization, and radiology procedures.
- Oversees maintenance and cleanliness of dental operation.
- Delegates expanded duties in accordance with skills of dental auxiliary and within limits of State of Illinois Law.
- Assures integration of patient education into all treatment phases;
- Discuss home care status and techniques with patients who demonstrate sub-optimal plaque control.
- Incorporates parent into education regime for every child less than 10 years old (if possible).
- Explains the importance of maintaining appointments to every patient.
- Prompt and accurate preparation and completion of records and reports of all examinations, procedures, and other services rendered by the Dentist as Health Center may reasonably request, including prompt placement of such information into patient charts in accordance with Health Center's policies and procedures
- Attendance at meetings, trainings, classes, or functions required by Health Center
- Prompt preparation and filing of accurate and complete time records and reports of hours worked, as required by Health Center
- All other documentation, records, and reports required by Health Center
- Participation in Health Center's quality improvement and compliance programs and any related committees.
