Position: Relocation Counselor

Job Title: Relocation Counselor
Location: Chicago, Illinois
Type: Contract (approx. 5 months with possible extension)
Compensation: $27 - $30 hourly
Contractor Work Model: Onsite
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM

About the Role:

Join a dedicated team as a Relocation Counselor and play a crucial role in supporting families and individuals throughout the relocation process. With over 25 years of experience providing technical assistance and program management for affordable housing initiatives nationwide, the company offers extensive training, mentorship, and career growth opportunities. This position provides the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in residents’ lives while working in a supportive, professional environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the primary liaison for residents during relocation, ensuring a respectful and smooth process.
  • Conduct needs assessments and provide ongoing counseling throughout relocation.
  • Assist residents with locating new homes, coordinating move logistics, and processing reimbursements.
  • Maintain accurate records of interactions, expenses, and communications in SharePoint.
  • Evaluate and resolve exceptional requests, offering practical solutions.
  • Oversee on-site move coordination with movers and property staff to ensure timely relocations.
Qualifications & Skills:
  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree preferred; relevant experience highly valued.
  • Experience: Prior client advisory or similar roles in customer service, housing, or social work highly desirable.
  • Technical

    Skills:

    Proficiency in Microsoft Office; familiarity with office equipment and internet/web usage.
  • Languages: Bilingual abilities are a plus; specify languages spoken and written.
  • Communication: Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Organizational

    Skills:

    Strong attention to detail, multitasking, and project management capabilities.
  • Customer Service: Passionate about helping others with a compassionate, professional approach.
  • Other

    Skills:

    Basic math skills, ability to work independently in a fast-paced setting, and a willingness to learn about affordable housing policies and regulations.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
  • Resides near Hammond, Indiana, or within commuting distance to Chicago.
  • Demonstrates initiative, confidentiality, and sound judgment.
  • Experienced in managing multiple projects simultaneously with a proactive attitude.
  • Comfortable interacting with diverse populations, including non-English speakers.
