NewsNation Segment Producer, Prime Weekends; Chicago

Overview

News Nation is looking for a Segment Producer to work on the network’s flagship weekend primetime newscast.

The Segment Producer role works with show producers to write guest segments, including script writing, visual element gathering, and graphics requests. The Segment Producer also pitches story and guest ideas as a key part of their role.

News Nation Prime focuses on news of the day, breaking news, and long-form investigations, deep dives, and in-depth conversations with leaders and lawmakers. News Nation Prime also focuses on Pulse of America bookings, speaking with real Americans from across the country about what they are seeing and facing, shining a spotlight on the under-told stories across the country. Candidates must have excellent organizational skills, be effective communicators, be detail-oriented, be solid broadcast writers, and work well under deadline pressure.

The position is based in our Chicago office.

• Pitch stories daily.
• Identify top-tier guests andsegments that help News Nation stand out.
• Write, organize, and produce scripts and elements for show and interviewsegments.
• Monitor the latest news and locate people, images, and sound editorial information via Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Dataminr, You Tube, and other platforms.
• Find reliable guests/witnesses quickly during breaking news situations.
• Perform other duties as assigned the by Executive Producerand Senior Produceror network leadership.

• Five or more years’ experience in national or major-market news
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent degree in journalism or related field.
• Must exhibit strong news judgment and editorial sensibilities
• Strong broadcast news writing skills are required
• Must be able to create dynamic graphic and video elements
• Must be self-directing, self-motivating and able to work will with a diverse group of people
• Must interact well with on-air talent, news managers, videographers, production, digital and engineering staff
• Should be able to handle stress, including short deadlines
• Should be able to work at a computer for extended periods of time
• Must be able to work assigned shifts and be on call during overnights, mornings and weekends/holidays

Salary Range: $60,000 - $80,000 Annually
