Job Description

CNBC is the global leader in business news. We create world‑class content for CNBC in the United States, Asia, Europe, Africa and beyond. We cover the economy and global stock markets with the consumer and retail investors in mind, but also focus on coverage for institutional investors, corporate executives and government officials. In addition to our menu of cable programming, CNBC also delivers news and information through ,  and CNBC Plus.

The options reporter will be based in Chicago. The successful candidate will cover the options market, broadcast breaking news and uncover stories from the options floor and interview key news makers and market participants live on television. The successful candidate will also write stories for CNBC’s digital coverage team, suggest storylines and keep in close contact with traders while keeping a close watch on the data and market‑moving action from the Cboe.

What You’ll Do:
  • Work both independently and with a producer and our digital team to produce original business news content.
  • Production responsibilities may include research, conducting interviews, writing and reporting on the options market.
  • Pitching story ideas and working on assigned stories developed by the editorial planning team.
  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with traders, investors and executives at the Cboe and in the options business overall.
  • Communicating clearly with producers in Englewood Cliffs.
  • Reporting for both TV and CNBC digital.
  • Writing stories for both TV and CNBC digital.
  • Taking ownership of the segment from pitch to production, including but not limited to: updating CNBC guest tracker, booking feeds, collecting relevant video, working with editors to cut elements for segment, summarizing pre‑interview for reporter or anchor, making certain of correct spelling and pronunciation of guest names and adhering to CNBC's booking policies.
  • Planning and contributing to digital and social coverage when needed.
  • Keeping up‑to‑date on universe of coverage, flagging upcoming events in designated sectors to CNBC editorial planning team.

This position is eligible for company sponsored benefits, including medical, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and a variety of other discounts and perks. Salary range: $175,000-$200,000

Qualifications
  • At least 3 years reporting in a live television environment and or reporting for a digital business news outlet.
  • Experience covering the options market.
Desired Characteristics
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize assignments, while working with multiple producers and editors on the broadcast and digital teams.
  • Experience with the options market.
  • Experience with live reporting.
  • Must be willing to travel, often with short notice.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience.
