Truman College is seeking a Manager Sound Asylum Production Center to oversee Truman Colleges Sound Asylum, an innovative space dedicated to DJing, music production, podcasting, and radio media. This role is responsible for creating a dynamic, inclusive, and future-focused environment where students can explore sound, creativity, and technology while developing skills aligned with careers in music, audio engineering, broadcasting, and digital media.
The Manager oversees day-to-day operations; design and delivers programming that builds technical, creative, and career-ready skills; cultivates industry and community partnerships; and leverages the Sound Asylum as a strategic asset to attract and engage new students. - Oversee daily operations of the Sound Asylum, ensuring the space is accessible, safe, and well-maintained.
- Manage equipment including DJ controllers, music production software, studio monitors, microphones, and broadcasting tools.
- Facilitate maintenance and upgrades with IT and vendors to ensure students have access to cutting-edge technology.
- Develop and enforce policies for equitable and responsible use of the space.
- Design and deliver programming that introduces students to music production, DJing, podcast creation, and radio broadcasting.
- Support students in learning industry-standard software (Ableton, Logic Pro, Pro Tools, Serato, etc.) and hardware.
- Organize performances, DJ showcases, and listening events to build community and highlight student talent.
- Partner with academic departments to integrate digital media skills into courses and co-curricular experiences.
- Collaborate with higher education institutions, K-12 programs, and community organizations to expand and provide access to learning opportunities through the Sound Asylum.
- Connect students to career pathways in music production, audio engineering, live sound, and digital media industries.
- Host guest speakers, industry panels, and networking events to expose students to professional opportunities.
- Build partnerships with local studios, radio stations, and media companies to create internships and work-based learning opportunities.
- Use the Sound Asylum as a recruitment tool to attract prospective students, especially those interested in digital media and music careers.
- Collaborate with the marketing team to promote programs through social media, events, and community outreach.
- Represent the Sound Asylum at open houses, career days, and community events to inspire future students.
- Track space usage, program participation, and student outcomes.
- Collect and analyze feedback to assess the Center's impact on student engagement, learning, and career development.
- Provide recommendations for growth, expansion, and future investment in the Sound Asylum.
- Associates degree from an accredited college or university and a minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience OR in lieu of an Associates degree, a minimum of four (4) to five (5) years of experience in music production, DJing, broadcasting, audio engineering, digital media management, or a closely related field. Bachelors degree preferred.
- An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered at the discretion of management.
- Experience designing and delivering creative technology, media programs, or arts-based programming.
- Experience managing or supporting a creative space, studio, educational lab, or similar production environment preferred.
- Working knowledge of DJing, sound engineering, and digital media tools.
- Proficiency in audio production software such as Pro Tools, Logic Pro, Ableton, Serato, or comparable platforms.
- Understanding of current trends in music, audio, and digital media industries and related career pathways.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with students, faculty, staff, and community partners.
