We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Safety Manager to join our team on a data center construction project. This role is crucial in upholding safety standards and ensuring compliance with all safety guidelines and regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction safety, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team.
Responsibilities- Implement and oversee the project's safety guidelines, site-specific safety plan, and any client-specific safety requirements.
- Coordinate with the regional safety lead to ensure all necessary safety signage and PPE are available.
- Confirm that all personnel scheduled to work on-site have completed the required safety orientation training.
- Gather and organize documentation from subcontractors and trade partners, including Job Hazard Analyses, Safety Data Sheets, High-Risk Activity Plans, and training certifications.
- Conduct at least one safety audit per day using the designated digital platform and share findings with the project team.
- Submit a minimum of two Safety Observation Reports per week.
- Engage with crews, spending 60–70% of your time in the field monitoring safety practices.
- Attend and contribute to daily huddles, coordination meetings, foremen’s meetings, and preconstruction meetings.
- Lead or support weekly all-hands safety meetings, including preparation of materials and attendance tracking.
- Review and track safety documentation, including Daily Action Plans and High-Risk Activity Plans.
- Notify the project team and regional safety lead of any incidents or near-misses and assist in investigations.
- Conduct site-specific safety orientations for all trade partners and maintain communication with subcontractor safety representatives.
- Participate in or lead planning meetings for high-risk activities.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in construction safety and 3 years of management experience.
- Current OSHA 510 Certificate or higher and at least 2 years’ experience in the construction industry.
- CPR and First Aid Certification.
- Experience with data center projects is highly preferred.
- Proficiency with computers and digital platforms for safety audits.
- Strong professional communication and presentation skills.
Skills & Qualifications
- Safety engineering or equivalent qualification.
- Experience in commercial building construction is considered.
- Professional certifications such as CHST, GSP, CSP, ASP are a plus.
- Ability to adapt to project schedules and extended hours as needed.
- Experience working on sites requiring NDA is beneficial.
This position is based in Elk Grove, IL, requiring daily on-site presence. The work schedule aligns with the project's jobsite hours, typically starting at 5:00 or 6:00 AM, and may require flexibility for extended hours. You will work 70% in the field and 30% in the office, contributing to a small footprint data center project as part of a team of 4-5 safety individuals.
The office is located in a warehouse near the job site.
This is a Contract position based out of Chicago, IL.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $60.00 - $75.00/hr.
