Job Title:
Safety Specialist - Construction Projects
Join our team as a Safety Specialist and play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and compliance of our construction projects. This position is ideal for someone with experience in data center or commercial building construction, who is dedicated to promoting a safety-first culture.
Responsibilities- Ensure compliance with the project's safety guidelines, site-specific safety plans, and any client-specific safety requirements.
- Coordinate with the regional safety lead to ensure all necessary safety signage and PPE are available.
- Verify that all personnel scheduled to work on-site have completed the required safety orientation training.
- Gather and organize documentation from subcontractors and trade partners, including Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Safety Data Sheets (SDS), High-Risk Activity Plans, and training certifications.
- Conduct at least one safety audit per day using the designated digital platform, including annotated photos.
- Share audit findings and corrective actions with the project team to ensure visibility and timely resolution.
- Submit a minimum of two Safety Observation Reports (SORs) per week.
- Spend 60–70% of your time in the field engaging with crews and monitoring safety practices.
- Attend and contribute to daily huddles, coordination meetings, foremen’s meetings, and preconstruction meetings.
- Lead or support weekly all-hands safety meetings, including preparation of materials and attendance tracking.
- Spot-check safety documentation during site visits.
- Review and track Daily Action Plans (DAPs), High-Risk Activity Plans, hot work permits and checklists, safety orientation records, and project-specific safety documentation.
- Immediately notify the project team and regional safety lead of any incidents or near-misses.
- Assist in incident investigations and review reports prior to submission.
- Ensure a 'Lessons Learned' summary is created for each incident or near miss.
- Conduct site-specific safety orientations for all trade partners.
- Maintain regular communication with subcontractor safety representatives.
- Participate in or lead planning meetings for high-risk activities.
- Current 30-hour OSHA Certificate or higher.
- At least 2 years of experience in the construction industry, with a preference for data center projects.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Reliable and proactive, with the ability to support and align with the project schedule.
- Ability to work alongside another safety professional and maintain clear communication with the project team.
Skills & Qualifications
- Prior experience supporting data center construction projects is strongly preferred.
- Experience in commercial building construction will be considered.
- Must be punctual, reliable, and able to accommodate project schedules, starting as early as 5:00 or 6:00 AM.
- Must be able to pass a background check and Drug/Alcohol test.
- Experience working on sites that require NDA is a plus.
- Must have CSP or CHST certification.
The work environment primarily involves fieldwork, with 70% of time spent on-site and 30% in the office. The role is based in Itasca, IL, requiring daily onsite presence. Work hours are typically aligned with the project’s jobsite hours, starting at 5:00 or 6:00 AM, and flexibility is required for extended hours if project needs demand it. The position demands a proactive approach, clear communication, and collaboration with a team dedicated to safety and quality.

Pay And BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $60.00 - $75.00/hr.
