Job Description:

About us

Our purpose is to bring together people, energy and markets to power and navigate a changing world. In a time of constant change and possibility we need new talent to pursue commercial opportunities, motivated by best-in-class insight and expertise. We’re always striving for more innovative digital solutions, sustainable outcomes and closer collaboration across our company and beyond, and you could be part of that too.

Together we continue to grow as the world’s leading energy company!

About the role

The Regulatory Affairs Analyst applies their analytic and technical skills to regulatory problems, particularly around low carbon fuels / biofuels. Their work enables advocacy that accelerates the energy transition by building a fact-based case for change that is used with external stakeholders and regulators. The role will also work closely with bp assets to develop pathway applications which enable participation in low carbon programs, particularly through co-processing at our refineries.

Responsibilities

Supply/Demand balances based on publicly available data that demonstrate biofuel production and feedstock capacity to support RFS and perhaps LCFS advocacy that encourages ambitious but realistic target setting. This will require close collaboration with analytics staff (who develop bp’s proprietary views on the same) as well as occasional work with 3rd party analysts from firms like Bloomberg and S&P.

Technical materials demonstrating asset capabilities and carbon intensity that form the basis for pathway applications in RFS and LCFS programs. This will require close collaboration with refinery and technology teams as well as external contractors who are involved in the application process.

Coordination of annual registration and permitting requirements managed by the team.

Other project work supporting advocacy, business implementation, and compliance will infill when there is space.

Collaboration

You will collaborate with a team of deep experts on the regulations that shape the downstream/fuels business in the Americas. The team works closely with the business to understand the risks and opportunities that emerge from regulations, influences regulations through bp and trade association advocacy, and supports implementation and compliance activities.

The team has exposure to every trading bench and regional supply business as well as to businesses outside ST&S such as refining, biofuels growth, Airbp, Archaea, etc. There is regular external contact with trade associations, regulators, and other industry interested parties (agriculture, etc.).

Essential education, experience and skills:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, chemistry, economics, or a related field
  • Experience working in refining or biofuels production dealing with process design, commercial optimization, or similar tasks
  • Demonstrated ability to succeed in multi-disciplinary teams
Desirable criteria include:
  • Exposure to low carbon regulations
  • Familiarity with carbon intensity modeling
  • Experience in market analytics (supply/demand, price curves, capacity projections, etc.)
