Position Summary
Working closely with and reporting to the Chief Commercial Officer (CCO), the Senior Director of Business Development will be an integral part of AMP’s commercial efforts, focusing on multi‑year (3–10+ year) offtake opportunities for AMP’s assets. Long‑dated, infrastructure‑grade markets are nascent, and this role will lead market creation and customer education to support (a) portfolio expansion via new project development and (b) enterprise value enhancement through contracted revenue streams.
The role requires experience across multiple energy verticals (gas, power, data centers, commercial & industrial, etc.), with a track record of creating new markets or use cases, building opportunity pipelines, cultivating customer relationships, and negotiating and executing term transactions. The candidate should be able to originate and lead all aspects of a transaction, from customer prospecting through contract review and negotiation, including cross-functional coordination and leadership of all details in between.
Ability to work independently while collaborating with the Business Development team is essential, as well as a working knowledge of pricing, portfolio management, and back-office functions needed to support commercial transactions. There will be select responsibility for supporting organic and inorganic (M&A) portfolio expansion. This is a senior, externally facing role engaging executive‑level decision makers at customers and partners, with progressive transition of long‑term origination responsibility from the CCO to this role.
This position will be remote‑first with frequent travel (50–60%) for industry conferences, customer visits, and team meetings, with a Chicago office hub available.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and investigate new market opportunities for carbon-negative RNG and related environmental attributes, including both compliance and voluntary buyers and use cases
- Develop and own a CRM‑tracked pipeline of opportunities to include customer prospecting, identification of relevant decision makers, initial contact, and stewardship of customers through the pipeline from cultivation to contract execution
- Lead commercial transactions from first engagement and term sheet negotiation through execution of definitive documents (including structuring, pricing mechanics, credit/security, operational coordination, and deal approval)
- Collaborate cross-functionally with portfolio management, finance, legal, and back-office teams to ensure deal integrity across pricing, credit, scheduling/nomination, measurement/verification, and settlements
- Represent Amp at industry conferences and customer visits and develop and deliver customer education materials (decarbonization uses, case studies, carbon accounting guidance, etc.)
- Assist CCO in developing a marketing and publicity strategy aligned to target segments and long‑term offtake objectives
- Advise and provide commercial support on expansion, greenfield and M&A opportunities (commercial diligence, offtake anchoring, and risk allocation)
- Provide limited, exception‑based support on shorter‑term transactions during peak periods while maintaining primary focus on multi‑year origination
Success Metrics (Outcomes)
- Within 12 months: build a robust pipeline of qualified, multi‑year opportunities; execute term sheets with strategic counter parties; demonstrate measurable contribution to enterprise value (e.g., contracted volumes, accretive pricing,…
