Job Overview and Responsibilities

The Senior Analyst will ensure that the United Airlines' Network Planning team has access to state‑of‑the‑art systems that will eventually be utilized by planners and schedulers to plan, evaluate, design and develop schedules.

  • Identify the best models to use, build subject matter expertise in those domains, continuously improve models’ design and application, and work with user groups to ensure Network Planning models are used to their fullest potential.
  • Provide thought partnership with internal and external teams to solve business cases related to Network Planning and Scheduling.
  • Lead the continuous improvement and development of existing systems used by Network Planning and Scheduling.
  • Work with cross‑functional teams to design, build, test, and implement new models, features and datasets.
  • Evaluate project ideas and requests received by the team, determine benefits, feasibility, and develop testing and implementation plans and timelines.
  • Engage with experts and monitor new developments in relevant fields which may be leveraged to improve United's network tools.
  • Serve as a resource and thought partner for the department and external groups that the Decision Science team frequently engages.
  • Build and lead training programs to ensure all potential users can use the models to their fullest potential.
  • Provide guidance on which improvements to make to existing models and how they are configured and calibrated.
  • Determine analytical framework for business problems and perform advanced analyses as necessary.

NOTE:

This position provides a hybrid work arrangement including approximately 50% of the time spent working onsite at our Chicago office location and 50% remotely.

Qualifications What’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 2‑4+ years of experience in a relevant field such as Network Planning, Scheduling, Revenue Management or Operations Research
  • Proven experience in forecast modeling, statistical analysis, and predictive analytics
  • Excellent knowledge of a large array of modeling and optimization techniques and tools
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills
  • Demonstrated ability to serve as business liaison between technical and non‑technical teams
  • Ability to work with large cross‑functional teams and on multiple projects independently
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Exceptional stakeholder management and relationship‑building skills across organizational boundaries
  • Familiarity with operational, financial and marketing related issues commonly faced in the airline industry
  • Experience translating complex models into business‑friendly insights and recommendations
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
  • SQL proficiency
