Job Summary

The Research Study Assistant for the Havey Institute for Global Health will work closely with our international NIH grants and faculty members supporting their global projects. Responsibilities include making travel arrangements, coordinating schedules and meetings, tracking grant application documents, and supporting the internal research seed award process from start to finish. The position offers opportunities to learn the grant process and understand how to work with grant funders.

The assistant will directly work with international partners, be sensitive to cross‑cultural workplaces, and provide general administrative support. The assistant will also coordinate collection, analysis, processing, and reporting of data, assist the Principal Investigator (PI) in reviewing data validity for grant programs, and complete activities related to NU Institutional Review Board (IRB) and grant compliance with NIH and funder regulations.

Specific Responsibilities

Administration

  • Maintain detailed records of results, including collecting, extracting, and entering data; and/or preparing basic charts and graphs.
  • Perform scientific literature searches in support of research.
  • Complete portions of grant applications and documents associated with local, state, and federal regulatory guidelines, requirements, laws, and research protocols.

Finance

  • Process reimbursements for travel expenses.
  • Process invoices and/or purchase requisitions.

Miscellaneous

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Successful completion of a full 4‑year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor’s or higher degree in a major such as social or health science or a related field; or an appropriate combination of education and experience.
  • Must complete NU's IRB CITI training before interacting with participants and re‑certify every 3 years.
Minimum Competencies
  • MS Office suite, Adobe Acrobat Pro proficiency.
  • Proactive, collaborative teamwork ability.
  • Deadline orientation.

  • Experience with IRB processes.
  • Experience working cross‑culturally with different institutions.
  • Attention to detail.
Preferred Competencies
  • Ability to read and understand program budgets.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.
