A rapidly scaling, private-equity-backed financial services organization is seeking a Director of Accounting to lead and modernize its accounting function during a period of sustained acquisition-driven growth.
This is a high-impact leadership role reporting to the CFO and partnering closely with FP&A and executive stakeholders. The position requires both strong technical accounting expertise and the ability to build scalable processes in a dynamic environment.
The OpportunityAs the business expands nationally through acquisitions and integration of advisory firms, the accounting function must evolve to support increasing complexity, reporting requirements, and stakeholder expectations.
The Director of Accounting will own the close process, technical accounting matters, audit coordination, internal controls, treasury oversight, and ERP optimization. This role combines operational execution with strategic design.
Key Responsibilities- Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
- Implement scalable reconciliations, review controls, and close calendars
- Develop and mentor the accounting team
- Oversee AP, cash management, and treasury positioning
- Support weekly cash forecasting and capital distribution processes
- Serve as internal subject matter expert for matters
- Lead purchase accounting for acquisitions
- Oversee lease accounting and equity compensation accounting
- Draft accounting policies and technical position memos
- Partner with M&A and finance leadership on transaction accounting
- Manage external audit relationships and deliverables
- Support lender and investor reporting requirements
- Maintain strong internal controls and compliance standards
- Lead ERP enhancements and accounting process improvementsn
- Standardize and automate processes across newly integrated entities
- Partner cross-functionally to ensure systems support growth
- CPA required
- 8+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Combination of public accounting and industry leadership experience preferred
- Experience in acquisitive, PE-backed, or multi-entity environments strongly preferred
- Deep knowledge of U.S. GAAP, including business combinations and lease accounting
- ERP implementation or optimization experience
- Proven ability to lead teams and operate in fast-paced environments
