Candidates must currently reside in the greater Chicago metroplex

Vaco is currently partnering with one of our PE-backed commercial construction and restoration clients to onboard a Senior Accountant to the team. The role will be responsible for full-cycle accounting as well as multi-entity consolidations.

The ideal candidate brings strong construction or restoration accounting experience, including Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting and Percentage of Completion (POC) revenue recognition. Additional work in technical accounting or prior memo experience is a huge plus. Experience operating in a private equity‑backed or high‑growth environment is highly preferred.

Compensation: $100K + Bonus

Day-to-Day
  • Lead and execute monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
  • Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
  • Ensure timely and accurate financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Maintain balance sheet integrity through detailed reconciliations and issue resolution.
  • Support multi-entity consolidations and intercompany accounting.
  • Assist with technical accounting research and documentation.
  • Apply and monitor Percentage of Completion (POC) revenue recognition.
  • Analyze job margins, cost overruns, and revenue adjustments.
  • Ensure accurate cut-off and accruals related to project-based revenue.
  • Assist with audits (external, lender, and PE sponsor) and due diligence requests.
  • Perform variance analysis (actual vs. budget, prior period, and forecast).
  • Identify opportunities to streamline processes and automate reporting.
  • Assist with integration of acquisitions, if applicable.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
  • CPA or CPA candidate preferred.
  • 5+ years of accounting experience, preferably in restoration services, construction, contracting or project-based environments.
  • Experience in a private equity‑backed, leveraged, or high‑growth environment preferred.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., Sage, Viewpoint, Net Suite, or similar).
