A rapidly scaling, private equity-backed professional services firm is seeking a Director of Accounting to lead and elevate its accounting function during a period of significant acquisition-driven growth.
This is a highly visible leadership role partnering directly with the CFO and executive team to build scalable processes, strengthen controls, and support continued expansion across multiple acquired entities nationwide.
The ideal candidate started their career in public accounting (Big 4 strongly preferred), holds an active CPA, and is currently in a corporate accounting leadership role within a complex, growth-oriented organization.
What You’ll Own Monthly Close & Financial Reporting- Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process
- Oversee financial statement preparation and review
- Build scalable close calendars, reconciliations, and internal review controls
- Develop and mentor a growing accounting team
Serve as the internal subject matter expert on:
- Business combinations / purchase accounting (ASC 805)
- Lease accounting (ASC 842)
- Equity compensation & share-based payments (ASC 718)
- Drafting accounting policies and technical memos under US GAAP
- Advising leadership on accounting implications of acquisitions and strategic initiatives
- Lead the external audit process and manage auditor relationships
- Ensure strong internal controls in a PE-backed reporting environment
- Drive ERP optimization and process automation
- Standardize accounting processes across newly acquired entities
- Partner cross-functionally to ensure finance infrastructure supports continued growth
- CPA required
- 8+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Background combining public accounting + corporate accounting leadership
- Deep expertise in US GAAP, specifically:
- Business combinations
- Lease accounting
- Equity compensation
- Experience managing audits and complex, multi-entity environments
- ERP experience (Workday or similar preferred)
- Strong leadership presence and ability to operate in a fast-paced, acquisitive environment
- True ownership of the accounting function during a high-growth phase
- Direct exposure to executive leadership and private equity stakeholders
- Hands‑on leadership across complex technical accounting areas
