Job Description

The Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) is seeking a strong accounting professional to join its Finance division as an Accountant. CMAP is a mission-driven agency serving 284 municipalities and seven counties across Northeastern Illinois, acting as the region’s comprehensive planning organization. As the region’s Metropolitan Planning Organization, CMAP manages a diverse portfolio of programs and projects supported by multiple funding sources and stakeholders.

This position is housed within CMAP’s Finance division and reports to the Accounting Principal. The accountant supports the organization’s financial integrity by ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant accounting operations. Responsibilities include accounts receivable, cash receipts processing, bank deposits, journal entries, monitoring project and grant activity, reconciliations, and supporting month-end close processes in accordance with GAAP and applicable regulatory requirements. The role also provides opportunities to expand technical expertise through hands‑on work with CMAP’s enterprise resource planning system, Microsoft Dynamics 365 (D365).

Collaboration and continuous improvement are central to this role. The accountant works closely with colleagues across CMAP departments and with external partners to support effective financial management, transparency, and compliance. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to process improvements, optimize ERP functionality, and strengthen financial controls in support of CMAP’s regional mission.

CMAP is seeking a detail‑oriented, collaborative professional with a strong accounting foundation and a willingness to learn. Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 is preferred but not required. This role is ideal for someone eager to grow their technical skills while contributing to a mission‑driven public‑sector organization.

Hiring Range: $69,769.35- $85,467.39

This position will follow a hybrid work schedule, with in‑office work at CMAP’s Old Post Office location in Chicago.

All applicants will receive an acknowledgement that their application has been received. Those candidates selected for further consideration will be contacted with further information.

CMAP is an equal opportunity employer, and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability status, genetics, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state, or local laws.
