We are seeking a Compliance Supervisor to lead day-to-day compliance operations for a fast-growing national accounting practice providing tax, accounting, and attest/audit services under an alternative practice structure, where a CPA-owned professional entity provides regulated services while affiliated entities deliver bookkeeping, tax, advisory and other administrative services. The Firms consist of (a) a bookkeeping, tax, and advisory firm and its subsidiaries and (b) a licensed CPA firm that provides regulated attest services.
The Firms have completed significant acquisitions and continue to grow, requiring strong regulatory compliance execution, research, and integration operating across multiple states. This role plays a critical part in regulatory compliance, including licensing oversight and post-acquisition integration.
The ideal candidate is comfortable taking initiative, independently resolving most compliance issues, and providing clear guidance to others in a fast-growth environment.
Key Responsibilities- Compliance Leadership & Integration
- Participate in the development and maintenance of a compliance framework applicable to accounting firms operating under an APS structure.
- Lead compliance integration for newly acquired firms, including alignment to Firms’ policies and professional standards.
- Identify compliance gaps and support remediation efforts.
- Develop and maintain standardized compliance programs, checklists, and processes.
- Interpret and apply professional standards and regulatory requirements, including independence and ethics rules.
- Serve as the first point of review for compliance inquiries.
- Monitor regulatory developments affecting the Firms’ operations.
- Oversee tracking of both individual and entity licenses and entity registrations across jurisdictions.
- Manage renewal calendars and ensure required filings are prepared and submitted on time.
- Serve as a routine liaison with counsel relating to licensing matters.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop team members.
- Provide clear, practical guidance to partners and operational teams.
- Escalate matters requiring leadership or legal input.
(Supporting subsidiaries providing advisory services to ensure they are set up to successfully fulfill client needs)
- Coordinate collection of information required for the Firms entity and tax filings.
- Track filing requirements and deadlines in partnership with internal corporate tax team.
- Ensure consistency of information across entities.
- 5+ years of experience in compliance, regulatory, independence, or professional standards roles.
- Experience in accounting, audit, tax, or other regulated professional services environments strongly preferred.
- Prior experience supervising or mentoring junior staff.
- Strong judgment, communication skills, and ability to operate independently.
- Experience in organizations with private equity ownership, M&A activity, or multi-entity structures is a plus.
- Strong project management, organizational, and communication skills.
- Highly collaborative and comfortable working across multiple teams and stakeholders.
- Self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced, growth-oriented, rapidly evolving environment.
- Chicago-based role (in-office 4 days per week).
