Overview
Under the general direction of the Controller, the Accounting Manager partners closely with the Controller to oversee the period‑end close process, financial reporting, and monthly accounts review and analysis. The role ensures accurate, timely, and high‑standard financial information for the university.
Responsibilities- Prepare revenue, scholarship, debt, and lease models and schedules for review by the Controller.
- Support month‑end and year‑end closing activities, including reconciliations of revenue, expense, and general ledger accounts.
- Record and reconcile payroll monthly journal entries, payroll taxes, and benefits payments.
- Maintain general ledger account codes and audit payroll object codes in Ulti Pro to ensure consistency with the chart of accounts.
- Assist with implementation of internal controls for accounting policies and procedures.
- Generate and record weekly authorized net transactions, review interest income, and reconcile other income from Authorized Net.
- Support preparation and presentation of accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
- Assist with year‑end accounts closing and compliance filings, including GAAP financial audit and IRS Form 990 filing.
- Collaborate on contributed funds tracking, granting, and sponsor ships, reconciling data between sub‑ledgers and the general ledger.
- Assume responsibility for fixed‑assets accounting, tracking project spending and validating depreciation expense.
- Perform additional duties assigned by the Controller.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance (master’s preferred).
- At least 8 years of accounting and finance experience.
- CPA preferred but not required.
- Strong GAAP and internal control knowledge.
- Not‑for‑profit accounting, reporting, and compliance experience.
- Excellent communication, written and verbal, including report writing.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, INDEX/MATCH, VLOOKUP, conditional formatting, what‑if analysis, etc.).
- Experience with Colleague, Business Objects, Power BI, and general accounting software.
- Understanding of accounting software application controls integral to the control environment.
