A mission-driven nonprofit organization is seeking an Accounting Manager to oversee daily accounting operations, ensure strong internal controls, and support financial reporting for a growing finance function. This hybrid role is based in Chicago and offers the opportunity to contribute to meaningful work that supports arts, culture, and community initiatives.
About the RoleThe Accounting Manager will play a key role in month-end close, financial reporting, compliance, contributed and earned revenue tracking, and strengthening accounting processes. This individual will collaborate across departments, support audits, and work closely with leadership on budgeting, analysis, and future planning.

Key Responsibilities- Manage day-to-day accounting activities and month-end close.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Maintain internal controls, compliance, tax filings, and audit support.
- Oversee contributed revenue, grants, restricted/unrestricted funds, and related reporting.
- Support earned income processes including ticket sales, concessions, and event settlements.
- Ensure accurate journal entries, reconciliations, and departmental reporting.
- Partner with programming, production, development, and other teams to ensure financial accuracy.
- Lead improvements in processes, controls, and system efficiency.
- Maintain fixed assets, project spending, and depreciation schedules.
- Utilize advanced Excel skills; experience with accounting systems (Sage Intacct preferred).
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
- 5+ years of accounting experience.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and nonprofit financial reporting.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
