A prestigious single-family office which oversees a diverse portfolio of businesses is seeking an accountant to join our team. Business activities include restaurants, theater and film production, real estate ownership and management, and a professional firm dedicated to clean water.
This role reports directly to the Controller. This role has opportunities for increased responsibility within the accounting department.
Core Accounting Functions
- Process vendor payments using BILL
- Prepare semi-monthly payroll through Paychex
- Perform monthly bank account reconciliations
- Process and track capital calls for various investments
- Prepare and file annual 1099s
- Compile quarterly and annual tax information for the outsourced tax team
- Assist with monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting including the preparation of consolidated financial statements
- Perform account analysis and identify variances
- Assist with budget preparation
- Supporting internal and external audit processes
Special Projects
- Participate in ad hoc accounting and financial projects
- Support process improvement initiatives within the accounting department including assisting as needed with the implementation of new accounting software and procedures
Required Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field, OR
- Minimum of five years of progressive accounting experience in lieu of a degree
- Public accounting experience is a plus
- Family office or multi-entity experience preferred
- Strong understanding of accounting and financial reporting principles
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively as a small team
- High level of integrity, discretion, and professionalism
- Strong time management skills including the ability to meet deadlines
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in Outlook, Quick Books Desktop, Microsoft Suite, Paychex and BILL software preferred
- Advanced Excel skills are highly desirable
Compensation and benefits
- Salary:
From $70,000 per year based on experience. - Employer paid Medical Insurance

Location
- Although this position is fully remote, preference may be given to candidates located in the Chicagoland or San Francisco Bay Area to help facilitate occasional in-person meetings with the Controller.
