About the RoleWithin the Accounting function at Bench Prep, you’ll play a pivotal role in our finance team. Your focus will be on maintaining
Str accurate financial records, preparing reports, analyzing data, and ensuring regulatory compliance. You will also contribute to budgeting, forecasting, audits, and process improvements, supporting our financial health and strategic decision‑making.
- Manage accounting functions, including account reconciliations, journal entries, AR/AP, and billing analysis.
- Analyze and review company expenditures, confirm proper expense allocation to departments, and report findings.
- Ensure all transactions are recorded in accordance with GAAP and company policies.
- Review general ledger accounts and record necessary journal entries, including monthly, quarterly, and yearly accruals. Assist in building financial statements (balance sheet, income statement, changes in financial position) and perform budget variance analysis.
- Support the design and preparation of budgets for management review.
- Prepare year‑end schedules for the annual tax returns.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and procedures.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting; CPA preferred.
- 3‑5 years (Staff Accountant) or 5‑8 years (Sr Accountant) in accounting or auditing; public accounting experience preferred.
- Team player with a positive attitude towards contributing and learning.
- Proficient with financial statement preparation, GAAP, and revenue recognition.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
- Capacity to work independently and collaboratively.
- Self‑starter, quick learner, and able to multitask regularly.
- Detail‑oriented with strong organizational skills and deadline focus.
- Adaptable to a fast‑paced environment, owning issues to completion.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
- Experience with accounting systems such as Net Suite, Intacct, Quick Books, etc., strongly preferred.

CompensationThe salary range for this position is $65,000–$85,000, based on Chicago market data. Please note that this represents the amount Bench Prep is willing to pay at the time of posting.
